Webinar on Demand: Essential Sales Tax Tips for Software Businesses
What You’ll Learn:
Paying for past sales tax mistakes is often the first sign for software companies that something was wrong, years later, when an audit brings it to light.
Bennett Thrasher’s partner-in-charge of State and Local Tax (Stephen Bradshaw) will hold a 50-minute webinar on the lesser-known (or understood) state and local sales tax caveats related to selling SaaS and on-premise software across multiple states and cities.
About the Webinar
This session will cover key aspects of sales tax, beginning with the fundamentals of sales tax basics, administration, tax rates, and application, along with an overview of uncommon terms. It will then move into determining prior exposure, including nexus, product taxability, and estimating potential liabilities, followed by strategies for mitigating prior exposure. Additional topics include B2B exemptions, exemption certificates, certification of use tax paid, and the allocation or apportionment of tax, as well as customer liability. The session will also address how to resolve prior period exposure through prospective filing, voluntary disclosure agreements, and back filing. Finally, attendees will gain insight into automated software providers and have the opportunity to participate in a live Q&A with Stephen Bradshaw.
