Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Durran Dunn attended the University of Southern Mississippi on both academic and track scholarships. At the time, he didn’t even know what a CPA was. Today, he is recognized as one of “America’s Top CPAs” by Forbes magazine. His talent on the track led to his role as The Freeze at Atlanta Braves games for seven seasons, where he raced fans in a full bodysuit during game breaks, before retiring in 2024. These days, Dunn focuses on family, serving his clients, and promoting a more diverse talent pipeline through his work with NABA Inc., which empowers Black business leaders. “Business shouldn’t feel exclusive; it’s a tool of empowerment that everyone should have access to,” he says.

“Even when things feel unclear, you must trust the work, the timing, and the larger purpose.”

“The most successful people I’ve seen are those who are students of life—lifelong learners who remain open to feedback and growth.”

“Challenges will come, but if you stay tough, keep pushing, and refuse to quit, you’ll succeed.”

“Public speaking is a skill that anyone can develop. The key is just to start.”

“Embrace yourself. Everyone has a story to tell, and when you focus on sharing your authentic message, it takes the pressure off.”

“It’s perfectly normal to feel nervous. The important thing is to channel that nervous energy, get on stage, and start speaking.”

“First, people and relationships are everything. Second, the greatest risk in life is not taking one. I’ve learned to take calculated risks because, more often than not, the upside is worth it—and the worst that can happen usually isn’t that bad.”

“I’m really into sports—either competing or watching. I also love to travel—there are still so many places I’d like to explore. I enjoy almost every cuisine, so I am always game to try any restaurant.”

“Sports have enhanced my business background and taught me valuable lessons, including discipline, how to lead, follow, develop grit, prepare, and remain consistent. All of these are essential for business success.”
