Jabari Scott Shares Tips for a Successful Virtual Internship with Kennesaw State University’s Nicole Pearce | Bennett Thrasher Skip to main content

Beginning your career can be an overwhelming experience, especially during a pandemic. To help students successfully navigate the job process in today’s virtual environment, Nicole Pearce, Assistant Director of Strategic Partnerships at Kennesaw State University, launched Career Conversations, a video series on LinkedIn that provides students with career-related tips and tricks. In one of her recent videos, she spoke with Jabari Scott, Bennett Thrasher’s Talent Acquisition Coordinator, and asked for his advice on how to maximize remote internships.

During the conversation, Jabari had the opportunity to respond to students’ internship questions, including:

  • What is the number one thing students should know about a remote internship? Communication is key. It is essential to proactively share updates with your team on project statuses and how you are doing. This helps build trust with others and allows for open dialogue between interns and managers.
  • Describe the biggest challenge in a remote internship. Every company has a unique culture. While working remotely, it can be challenging for interns to fully appreciate what differentiates a company from others. Take advantage of the benefits you are offered and get to know associates throughout your internship to see if the culture is the right fit for you. For example, BT offers Summer Fridays, which allows for our associates to focus on their mental health and enjoy a shorter workday and longer weekend during the summer months.
  • What is your best tip for success during a remote internship? Stay engaged! Internships are part of the interview process for a full-time position. It is important to come to work enthusiastic and prepared with questions.
