IRS Shutdown Update - Tax Refunds Will Be Paid During the Government Shutdown | Bennett Thrasher Skip to main content

The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) announced Monday, January 7, 2019, that the IRS will pay tax refunds during the shutdown. This is a change from the previous policy announcement.

As noted in our last blog post, you should continue to meet all IRS filing and payment requirements. The government shutdown does not provide any exceptions or changes to tax return filing and payment deadlines. The IRS will continue to accept tax payments and tax returns during the shutdown. The U.S. Treasury Department is expected to provide additional tax filing season information and guidance in mid-January.
