Bennett Thrasher partner, Anton Hayward, was featured on May 28, 2015 in an article about recent changes in Georgia's captive insurance laws and Bennett Thrasher's leadership in reviving the Georgia Captive Insurance Association.
Although ten percent of Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in Atlanta, most of which have captives, none of the captives have been domiciled in Georgia. The article adds, “There has been a notable effort to revive the moribund Georgia captive business. Georgia was an early-on leader and then fell away into disuse.”
“The old laws were not user-friendly,” Hayward told the publication. “We have legislation passed [that] has reduced the tax on captives, introduced pooling and limited liability companies and reduced capital.” The complete article, which is currently available only to International Risk & Insurance Management Institute's CICR subscribers, will be accessible here on September 1, 2015.
