Independent Review Organization

Managed care organizations and healthcare providers such as health systems, hospitals, and physician groups must navigate complex billing regulations, the Stark Law, and the federal Anti-kickback law, among others.  When there are allegations that one of those laws has been broken, these entities are often required to enter into a Corporate Integrity Agreement (CIA) with the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).  As part of these agreements, the alleged must also engage a third-party Independent Review Organization (IRO) to assist governance with ongoing monitoring and compliance.
